Finding Time for Yourself as a Single Mum

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Becoming a mother changes everything. Suddenly your children take priority over anything else in your life. But, although no one will ever matter more than your children, you still need to find time for yourself. That means time to pursue interests, time to exercise and time to find someone to share your life with. The last of these is important – but how can you meet someone who’s good enough not only for you but also for your kids?

Dating can be a bit overwhelming for everyone, but when you throw in the extra consideration of your children’s welfare, it can be even more daunting. Here are a few tips for single mums who want to take some time for themselves and find someone special…

Balance your priorities

Don’t use your children as an excuse to avoid intimacy. Remember that, while your children will always be a priority, you need to find time for yourself too – and that includes your romantic life. Whether that means finding a reliable babysitter or taking up your parents’ offer to look after the children, make arrangements to have some ‘me’ time at least once a week.

Try online dating

Single parents pushed for time often find that online dating offers a solution. There are dating sites specifically designed for single parents, but remember that being a single mum is only one part of who you are.

Why not explore options for other interests you may have – that might mean joining vegetarian sites or trying Muslim or Christian dating sites. There is a lot to who you are, so give yourself a chance to develop your interests and meet like-minded people.

Join clubs

Another way you can explore interests and widen your social circle at the same time is to join local clubs. Why not take a look to see what local classes are available – yoga, pottery, photography, or whatever else you like the idea of trying.

So, try to make a little time for yourself each week to try new things. And whether you end up meeting someone at a poetry workshop or through eHarmony dating UK, you’ll know you share certain interests. The important thing is that you find the time to do something for yourself.

I am Happy and Grateful..

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011
These are the hard times of my life. But I am happy and grateful for so many things. I have never felt so financially insecure in my whole life, but somehow, I know this too shall pass.. It was just the enrollment season, and renewal season for most domains that neared expiration all happened in the month of June.. Worse, Blogitive owes me $205 dollars for unpaid approved tasks since December 2010 to May 2011, and the ones in November 2010 are now back in the basket awaiting payment.. whew.. I was caught off guard by the situation, and I felt my world crumbled a bit. Well, not quite.. It was just the circumstance. And I am glad I have friends and family who give unconditional support.

Gladly, I am little by little bouncing back… slowly, No thanks to the value of Paypal money now– but like what I said, it will soon be over. Point to consider, I didn’t sacrifice my daughter’s education and needs (NO PUBLIC SCHOOL EDUCATION for her), and I am paying up loans little by little, as my sources are coming in in small portions. Of course, I am waiting for the usual wave this month, so  I have to anticipate a more positive result.. All is well! To borrow the saying from the Hindi movie, 3 Idiots, my sister and I watched this morning.. All is well! I am happy and grateful, that despite the circumstances, ALL IS WELL!
