Happy For Donna..

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Aspiration is the process of draining fluids from a swollen body part, and it costs so much just to have a session. My friend Donna, the one I blogged about previously, has had her second session and now has a flat belly, but will have to go through another CT-scan for something else that was found afterwards. She texted me and said that with all the financial help pouring in from our class: Montessori GS Batch 1888, she has finally felt better with less financial worries going through her medical routines and all other operations. I am glad she do not have to worry, as worrying adds up to stress which may cause her to lose her desire to get well. Unlike those people who are at the mercy of the Actos lawsuit they filed, and their actos attorney helping them to win.. Bladder cancer contracted due to the use of Actos, that is, and if they win, everything will have to be shouldered by the company or whatever compensation that shall be agreed upon.

I am just happy for Donna and happy that everyone in our batch have chipped in for full support..

Finding Time for Yourself as a Single Mum

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Becoming a mother changes everything. Suddenly your children take priority over anything else in your life. But, although no one will ever matter more than your children, you still need to find time for yourself. That means time to pursue interests, time to exercise and time to find someone to share your life with. The last of these is important – but how can you meet someone who’s good enough not only for you but also for your kids?

Dating can be a bit overwhelming for everyone, but when you throw in the extra consideration of your children’s welfare, it can be even more daunting. Here are a few tips for single mums who want to take some time for themselves and find someone special…

Balance your priorities

Don’t use your children as an excuse to avoid intimacy. Remember that, while your children will always be a priority, you need to find time for yourself too – and that includes your romantic life. Whether that means finding a reliable babysitter or taking up your parents’ offer to look after the children, make arrangements to have some ‘me’ time at least once a week.

Try online dating

Single parents pushed for time often find that online dating offers a solution. There are dating sites specifically designed for single parents, but remember that being a single mum is only one part of who you are.

Why not explore options for other interests you may have – that might mean joining vegetarian sites or trying Muslim or Christian dating sites. There is a lot to who you are, so give yourself a chance to develop your interests and meet like-minded people.

Join clubs

Another way you can explore interests and widen your social circle at the same time is to join local clubs. Why not take a look to see what local classes are available – yoga, pottery, photography, or whatever else you like the idea of trying.

So, try to make a little time for yourself each week to try new things. And whether you end up meeting someone at a poetry workshop or through eHarmony dating UK, you’ll know you share certain interests. The important thing is that you find the time to do something for yourself.

How Budget Cuts Are Affecting Teaching Jobs in the US

Monday, August 8th, 2011

Nearly every corner of our culture and society is feeling the effects of the economy in some manner. Even those who did well before are feeling the burn and are having a hard time adapting. When you look at certain professions, you can see easily how they have suffered from massive cuts. There are however some positions or types of work that are always in demand. No matter what the economic status, these positions are relied upon and mandated for a variety of reasons. When you look at teaching for example, this is a job which is of high demand for our youth. The reality though is that teachers have been affected in some very serious ways. In addition to job loss and other problems, the budget cuts across schools have caused some serious problems for teaching jobs.

There are Less Jobs Out There

The most stunning way that these budget cuts are affecting teachers everywhere is that there are less jobs available. This is due to the fact that budget cuts have forced many districts to cut out teachers and related positions. So the teachers who were once safe and could plant roots in their schools are now scampering to find another opportunity. The less money in a budget the less teaching jobs there are to be had. So whether you’re a new teacher just starting out or one that has been in the field for years, there aren’t as many opportunities available to get hired for.

Class Sizes are Larger Making Less Opportunity Available

The students really lose out when the teachers have less opportunities available to them. This always results in much larger class sizes which is unfair not only to teachers but to students as well. The larger the class size, the less individual attention a teacher can give to her students. This means that the education for the kids is compromised as are the opportunities for a teacher overall. Not only does a teacher have to give more to an increasing number of students, but she also has to stay with this type of structure as there just isn’t room for advancement like there used to be. You tend to stay in a teaching position out of fear for your future if nothing else.

Teachers Have Greater Competition for Jobs Overall

It used to be that teachers coming out of college had some great opportunities available to them. Even teachers with tenure who moved to a new state or district could surely find some sort of opportunity. Now you have new teachers starting out, old veterans laid off, and teachers with changing circumstances all competing for the same limited number of job opportunities. The competition for jobs is higher, the pay is lower, and the opportunities themselves aren’t as great as they once were. This is a bleak picture for educators in the foreseeable future indeed.
