Something to ponder..

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Here’s one very good example of wasted efforts. Carmz was able to rescue a bird that flew in the Orange house after being hit by a child outside the gate with his slingshot. It was wounded on the head. Apparently, Carmz would not have noticed the said bird,  had it not for its companions who tried to bring him airborne, who were so noisy in the process.  According to Carmz, it was like bayanihan, only, bird version. I was so amused at her story. So I asked her what she did after seeing that. And she said, the only reason why she had to intervene was because the birds who were trying to rescue their kin, could not bring the wounded creature airborne.. Of course, it was wounded and in pain. Carmz took it when it fell to the ground and of course the other birds flew away.. She took care of the wound using people stuff, like cotton and all other means to dress human wound. River and Lili even asked her if it were possible and so on and so forth.. when she was done dressing the bird’s wound, it was placed in a toy basket with lid, so it can rest and will not be harmed.

Yesterday morning, after having rested 24 hours, it was taken out of the basket, fed and was placed by the window so it can  sample fresh air again. Within a few minutes, when Carmz looked at the bird, below is what was left of him..

Carmz called me and was shocked. The cat apparently passed by and snatched the recuperating bird by the window..  Tragic!

So what does this tell us? Sometimes, we give so much of ourselves to save other people. To give meaning in other people’s lives.. or to save him or her from danger or death. Even if the current circumstance or situation is brought about by the irresponsible actions of the concerned..

If it’s really TIME, IT’S REALLY TIME! Like, I remember the movie of Vilma Santos with Lucky, who was dying with Cancer if untreated. He surpassed the danger by having been operated, and spent money and time to save himself.. But then, after everything, he still died because he was side-swiped by a car and was thrown on impact and hit his head..

I am one person who is never sorry for missed efforts and frustrating outcomes. For as long as I know I have done what’s right and fought for what I believe is just and humane for whom the actions are intended, then it’s okay to lose it in the end.. Perhaps, the purpose of the bird is to feed the hungry cat, and die in the process.. Perhaps the cat’s existence is meant to end the bird’s life.. and if it were a mommy bird, perhaps the baby bird will become stronger without its mama.. point is, we never really know the greater scheme of things.. All we can do is live and let others live.. But to take their lives on our hands, no matter how bad they have been to us is not our call. Eventually, that person will get what he deserves.. And no matter how many people will help him escape the wrath of his own actions and bad decisions, still, what shall happen shall happen.. KARMA exists and there’s no hiding from it!

That bird may have been really really bad in his past life to die such tragic death— aw! Perhaps, when it was still human, it didn’t treat birds kindly as the same courtesy was shown to him.. Oh well, that’s just an old Mahayana point of view..
