GMRC and Values Education subjects focus on these two, Good Manners and Right Conduct. That is in Elementary and High School. Sadly though, even if the subjects are there for the students to be in, it is not the exact basis when it comes to learning values and knowing the difference between right and wrong and applying them in daily life. It all boils down to family and the environment to which the person grows up in. If kids these days are found not to have good manners, then blame should not solely be pointed at the school, as how so many people do. It’s always a good idea to find out what’s going on with the child before even starting to judge him or her.
Really, what is the basis for judging good manners and right conduct? Because come to think of it, a lot of people claim that they have it, but technically do not go by what they claim. If you ask me, good manners and right conduct goes beyond the usual morning, afternoon or evening greeting. It goes beyond the usual owning of mistakes and asking apologies for them. It goes beyond knowing ones responsibilities and standing aground and doing something to render such responsibility. It goes beyond moral, and spiritual ascendancy. Even people who say they are committed to their faith can not say they are good and they alone are good just because they follow their faith to the letter, but fail to be human, just and responsible in their dealings with others.
If you ask me, Good Manners and Right Conduct is clearly seen when a person does not only know how to conduct himself or herself with the people around her or him. But most importantly, when this said person makes a mistake, owns the mistake and does something to correct it. But the person who has made a mistake, fails to accept the mistake, and worse tells people that he or she is innocent at the same time, continue to languish in the mistake by creating a story far from the truth of what wrong he or she has committed. Knowing what is right and doing what is right. That is what it takes.
I am not saying that we should all be devoid of flaws. We are but human, we make mistakes. What I am trying to drive at is that, when one knows that what had been done is wrong, then STOP! Do not add any more WRONG because no matter what, it can never make a wrong right.
And if it does not really stop, there’s always the justice system. It may be slow, but it always works..
