How Do We Get Justice?
Justice is often a misguided word. Misunderstood perhaps, or simply totally missed. When we are wronged, and we are not able to do something about it, what do we do? If it’s too much, then should we rally and take the streets?
Sometimes, using the streets can be effective, but only to call attention. After that, what’s next?
Women walked the streets on March 8, 2010 in celebration of the International day for women. Some of them who joined the walk were known organizations to take the streets every time they have issues of injustices and would want immediate attention and action for them. Sure enough, because our justice system here in the Philippines is quite slow and often times viewed by many others as an unjust system, we come to witness many more episodes of men and women taking the streets for action. But where is justice there? I find that it will just be an added burden and won’t necessarily be effective.
On a personal level, we can actually go ahead and sue the person who wronged us, by virtue of the fact that we have a constitution and the justice system plays the ground according to the rules of law. And like a game, we just need to have good players who will play the game for us. That is where your lawyers would come in. It is upon their hands that the battle will be won. So that, even if you are on the side of the truth, it can still be twisted and made into a wrong, then you lose. That is what we call, strategies and the works to win a legal battle. Perhaps, it is true that lawyering is the dirtiest of all occupations. I read that somewhere ages ago.. Why? Because even if the lawyer knows that his or her client is at fault, he or she can not simply resign and say that he will stop lawyering because he knows that his client’s faults will make him lose and break the case. A lawyer, no matter what the ground of his client is, will have to abide by the rules of court and by all means, win the case for his client, whether he is truly responsible for the crime or not. That explains why some lawyers would resort to certain actions to undermine the opponent, with the help of some of the family and friends of his client. Some ways would be drastic and entails rigorous efforts, while others may seem laid back yet delivers a point that breaks the opponent’s claims. In that way, they will surely win the case or the opponent will give up and withdraw the case. Either way, it will be a victory for his client, and he gets paid..but is there justice there? Not for the victims of course.
In this day and age, there are only a few good lawyers who really work for the good of humanity and justice to be properly served.
As for the victims who are not able to get justice, well, justice is not only mandated by the laws of man and the nation. There is also Divine and Natural Justice. God’s law and The Divine, Nature’s Law and Rules of Karma. So that, if the guilty is able to escape his punishment because he has fled or his family and friends have helped him escape, time will come that God and Mother Nature will ask him to pay his dues.. And that will be much more than the punishment he has escaped from..
Then we can say that JUSTICE IS SERVED!
