Retirement Investments

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

My father was busy looking for alternative income generating solutions prior to his retirement. A few companies sent over snail mail some annuity quotes for my father to consider. But none of the financial advisers appealed to my father. He says that the variable annuities for each quote is not what he would consider.

During this time, I got curious and looked for a retirement investment information site that could somehow help my father. I found FreeAnnuityRates.com through Google, and I found out that they feature over 150+ unique articles for my father to review so I printed some of them.  There were also a custom suite of annuity calculators, a retirement blog, and ratings for all major insurance companies that I found helpful.

And the good thing about them is that they give consumers free annuity rate reports and keep them in touch with licensed financial advisors.

My Soon To Be In-Laws..

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I take pride in the fact that my family and family circle, both in my mother’s and father’s sides are mostly licensed Professionals. Education has always been our main thrust.  I am happy that my soon to be brother and sister in law are both on the same wave lengths as ours.

There is really no specific requirement to be part of our family.  It’s not a job that one needs to fill. But if you ask me, my family deserves someone equally responsible and equally respectable as each one of us. We are not a problem in society so we do not want someone who will tarnish that. We have not wronged anyone or destroyed innocent children, nor caused another person to suffer because of selfishness and greed, so a greedy and selfish person is not welcome in our family. That will disrupt the peace,  and may cause the break up of  our family.

As my mother and father instilled the virtues of independence, hard work, honest labor and good relations, humility and trustworthiness, moral responsibility and  faithfulness, I am happy that my soon to be in-laws have them too.  And being smart and good looking, skillful and talented like each one of us is an added bonus.. hehehe..

Lili and River and the children who will come after them need good role models to build character.

Hormel Foodies

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Hormel Foods. All opinions are 100% mine.

When I lived in Manila back in 1998, my Tita Gin and I would take time shopping and doing the groceries together. We’d have two separate carts in the grocery, mine is just the smaller one since I am only buying for myself to last for a week, while hers was the biggest one since she is buying for her and Tito Ben’s supplies. I always noticed that Tita Gin would pick up different kinds of  hormel canned goods apart from all other imported goodies. Well, it was not shocking nor surprising for me as I have learned from Tito Ben that Tita Gin lived abroad and spent most of her childhood summers in Georgia USA, where her mom’s family are from. And Hormel and all the other stuff she constantly buys, has always been part of her growing up. What I love about my Tita Gin is that she has always been a good cook. That’s where she and I would click. She would prepare quick and easy recipes to complicated masterpieces that my Tito and I appreciate very much. Then, they moved to Evangelista, Makati and when they invited me to live with them, that’s when me and Tita Gin bonded even more, as we would prepare food together. She showed me recipes that her mom prepared for her every time she visits them. And that’s when I discovered the real reason behind her stocking on Hormel canned goods. Her mom’s recipes always had a Hormel product added in them.  Missing her mom, she likes to relive moments with her through the recipes she learned from her.  As a matter of  fact, she prepared sandwiches using her stash of  Hormel combined with all other ingredients, in her mother’s recipe. And I must tell you, they are really good.  My favorite was the SPAM & Cheese Sandwich. If  Tita Gin and Tito Ben only had a child of their own, I am sure he or she will also be enjoying those moments Tita Gin shared with me.

Anyway, I am kinda nostalgic as Tita Gin and I have not seen each other for quite a long time now. I miss her. I happened to drop by www.hormelrecipes.com and the food recipes reminded me of my Tita Gin.

By the way, I discovered that it is Hormel’s 75th Anniversary, way to go Hormel! Let us all tweet a “Happy 75th anniversary! Hormel® chili and Dinty Moore®! What began with 1 product each has evolved into 20 varieties today www.hormelfoods.com“…

And guys, if you are fond of the NCAA tournament, you can actually cheer on your favorite team at the same time enjoy foods like the Hormel® chili and Dinty Moore® Game time recipes that you can find at  www.hormelrecipes.com..

In God’s Hand..

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

The orange color you see on that white cement planter is not the reflection of our Orange Lady Bug..

That is actually the paint as the bug kissed it to prevent us from hurting people and property prior to the unfortunate loss of our breaks.

Last March 15, 2010 after Lili’s and River’s recognition day practice at the Grand Caprice, we went to fetch my mother and meet Sweet for a snack. After we ate, we went straight to MOGCHS  passing by Uldariko Akut St. but as we were about to turn my father noticed that the breaks wouldn’t hold.

On this very street our Orange Lady Bug made a graceful dance as she tried to avoid students, posts, cars and other properties that could be damaged. My father on the wheel, with his faith in God and love for his family, was guided to instead intentionally bump the cement planter you see above. The damage was minor, compared to the risks we saw while we swerved the said street. It was a few short minutes of tension and fear but we made it. The store across the street is where my mother bought band aid for my father’s minor cut on the finger.  Across that is also our poor Orange Lady Bug.. Thanks to the cement planters that somehow protected the post you see in the photo above. Imagine,  if we hit the post, people in the area will have a problem with electricity as well as water as the water meters were also attached to the said post.

The survivors had to take a taxi in going home, after my father called the shop that services both our Red and Orange Lady bugs to fetch it from the site for repair. Until now, it’s still there because the body had to be fixed..

Well, God has delivered us from harm. It pays to ask for God’s protection and having faith in him.. For he has never let me and family down.

Thank you Lord!
