Truth about Infant Formula
Tuesday, October 13th, 2009In the United States, experts and the federal government want mothers to save money by encouraging them to breastfeed because it’s the best nutritional option and at the same time, enables parents to save up to $2,000 a year on formula costs. A certain federal agency, WIC, that provides food, nutrition counseling, and access to health services to low-income women, infants, and children, introduced a new food package that encourages breastfeeding. But of course, if women are not able to breastfeed, they will be purchasing the infant formula for them.. But if the breastfeeding package is selected, women will not receive any infant formula. Of course, women who partially breastfeed or formula feed exclusively will receive 13 percent less formula than in the previous years. So parents may now have to purchase regular-formula on their own. To help them save, it is emphasized that in the United States there are no generic infant formulas. The truth is that all infant formulas are subject to the same regulations governing manufacturing and ingredients as stipulated by the Infant Formula Act, therefore, store-brand infant formulas sold at major retailers are therefore a premium nutritional substitute at a value price and meet the same exacting FDA nutritional requirements as all the major brands. That was explained by Dr. Barbara Levine of Weill Cornell Medical College.
And since there is no nutritional reason to buy the much more expensive formulas, mothers are encouraged to buy store brand formulas to save on cost. To help you count your savings, why dont you try to calculate by compairing store brand formulas price with the brand name formulas using the calculator at the link below:
