EMPOWERED MOM

Ever since Rustom Padilla came out I was really happy for him. He has finally bid goodbye to the role he was playing. That is my hope for all those who up to now are still in hiding. Truly, I could say that Rustom or now known as BB Gandanghari is an empowered woman. Sometimes I wonder though, if he did not come out in the open, would he be happier than how happy he is right now? I think the answer is obvious. And perhaps that is the reason why he came out in the first place. To be happy. Don’t we all want that for ourselves and for others? I know of someone who has not yet come out. And I dream that perhaps, like Rustom, he would find the strength to do so. I caught him once while I was surfing the net at one of the cafes here in CDO and he was, having fun with his crossdressing chat. Imagine that? He keeps telling me that he is straight. But being in that chat room makes me wonder if he is finding the strength and the wisdom to come out from his closet… If given a chance, I would definitely encourage him to come out from the closet… For him to be happy..

I memorize this song by heart. Even when I was in High School, I know the lyrics and the melody as this song is sung by my grandma, Lola Berta in her own dialect from Leyte.. when my cousins and I were lulled by her to sleep… I remember singing this while sending my then infant Lili to dreamland… She has grown up with this song sung to her by me, my mom or my sisters, Honey or Sweet… Now, she can sing this song too.. In fact, this is the first song she has memorized.. although she can’t pronounce yet in her early years, still, she is able to finish the song…
